Close encounters between UAPs and Ashaninka Indigenous Tribes, State of Acre

ACRE UAP CASE, 2014

In 2013, several UAPs began to be observed in an Ashaninka indigenous tribe called Kampa do Amônia, located in the state of Acre, near the peruvian border. The phenomena reached its peak in 2014 when they began to interact closely with the indigenous people, emitting light beams on them, causing physical effects and consequently panic in that population. The Federal Police and Federal Public Prosecutor's Office opened criminal and civil inquiries to investigate it. In 2016, the phenomena appeared in another Ashaninka indigenous tribe called Kampa e Isolados do Envira, where a man tried to shot one of these luminous bodies and received a light beam which hospitalized him. These UAP sightings in Acre occur to this day, but in a more discreet way, and seems to be connected to some of the UAP cases in Peru.

The Amazon hides many legends and mysteries, and certainly a great mystery are the UAP phenomena that occur in that region. With an extension, according to IBGE, that covers the states of Acre, Amazonas, Pará, Maranhão, Roraima, Rondônia, Amapá, Tocantins and Mato Grosso, the Amazon region is home, according to FUNAI, to more than 400 indigenous tribes of different ethnicities. Among these indigenous peoples, now known through official government documents, one of them in particular, the Ashaninka people, lived a routine of fear due to close contacts with unidentified aerial phenomena, called “fireballs” by the ancient indigenous peoples.
The Ashaninka, also known as Kampa, originate from the Amazon jungle of Peru, where they have been present for at least 5,000 years and where most of their indigenous peoples are located today. They have a past of close contact with the Inca civilization, both in friendly situations and in situations of war [Instituto Socioambiental, 2020]. In Brazil, they are winning in the state of Acre, close to the border with Peru and divided into 4 indigenous tribes: Kampa do Rio Amônia, Kampa and Isolados do Rio Envira, Kampa do Igarapé Primavera and Kaxinawá Ashaninka do Rio Breu [FUNAI, 2020] .
The first case involving UFOs and Ashaninkas publicly disclosed took place in 2016, in the Kampa and Isolados do Rio Envira indigenous tribe, more specifically in the Nova Floresta and Cocoaçu villages. At the time, the indigenous teacher Airton Silva de Oliveira, known as Airton Kampa, rescued and took to a hospital in the region a member of the Nova Floresta tribe named Iaka Ashaninka, who was hit by a greenish beam of light from a flying object. unidentified man who was moving very quickly, right after he and other indigenous people had fired 18 shots from the direction of the latter. Initially, he thought it was a drone, but the fact that it burned like indigenous lanterns, in addition to emitting light beams with harmful potential, scared those tribes who experienced the phenomenon. Professor Airton also reported seeing the object on one of his pastoring nights, declaring it to be “a small machine that had red, blue and green lights and gave off a burnt tire odor.” Also according to him, the object always appeared at dawn, around one-thirty, remaining until two o’clock in the morning. Another person who saw UFOs in the region was retired professor at the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), Izan Carvalho de Melo, who saw an object with its own characteristics around BR-364, towards Manoel Urbano – Feijó [Jornal Con-tilNet, 2016].
In the case of 2016, the ufologist Edison Boaventura Júnior even sent a request for the Access to Information Law (LAI) to the Government requesting more details of what happened. At the time, FUNAI issued Technical Information 09/2016 / GAB / PRES / FUNAI-MJ in September 2016 stating that the occurrence was real and that the FUNAI Regional Coordination in Juruá had been following the case with the indigenous people since March 2016 . However, he refused to send documents about the investigation, alleging that other public bodies such as the Federal Police, the Army and the Military Police were involved and that the Superintendence of the Federal Police in the State of Acre should be called to provide further information . However, after Edison himself consulted the Federal Police, the latter said that he did not have any documents on the matter.
Based on this 2016 request, the author of this article then started an extensive research in order to gather new information from the Government about the phenomena that were happening in Acre. After several contacts with public servants and requests for information from the government, the effort was finally successful, and in August 2020, FUNAI released the first documents revealing cases that occurred in 2014, this time in the Kampa indigenous tribe Amônia, which showed the involvement of other public bodies such as the Federal Police and the Federal Public Ministry. Based on these FUNAI documents, the author filed new requests for access to information, and in the month of October 2020, more than 60 pages of documents from the Public Ministry were made public. Then began the discovery of one of the largest and best documented cases of Brazilian ufology.

From the first contacts to the request for help from the indigenous people to FUNAI

According to reports from the indigenous people, in 2013 the first interactions of the Ashaninka with the inexplicable light phenomena that flew over the rivers and forests of the region began. On July 24, 2014, right after the Soccer World Cup in Brazil, the tranquility of the Apiwtxa Village was shaken by the presence of unidentified flying objects. A letter sent on 31 July 2014 by the leaders of that village to the Regional Coordination of FUNAI in Juruá said: “It is a sphere about 4 meters in diameter, which shoots out beams of light, usually blue in color. Villagers tried to photograph and film the object, but they were unsuccessful, as when it was close to the ground, the machines simply did not work. Photographic images were taken only when the object was far away. On the 24th of the current month, light beams fired by the object hit some people. One affected woman even had an episode of miscarriage. All affected people, three in total, are currently ill, with headache and sensory imbalance. One of them feels her body in shock from the trauma. The community is preparing a detailed report with photographs and better information to present to FUNAI. In any case, I ask FUNAI to intervene, together with the Federal Police and the Army, to take an observational measure to identify the object, since the community is in a state of insecurity.”.
In January 2015, some researchers and indigenists met in Aldeia Apiwtxa, Kampa tribe of the Amônia River, to participate in the IX Meeting of Indigenous Peoples of the Acre Frontier – Ucayali. On January 24, everyone was having dinner, staying at the house of the Ashaninka leadership Isaac Piyako, today mayor of Marshal Thaumaturgo, the closest town to that tribe, when they noticed a great movement in the village’s yard. The indigenous people spoke loudly and went out of their homes to see, according to Isaac, “those objects” that were passing through Apiwtxa. Indigenous people and researchers witnessed the flight of two luminous objects that night over the Amônia River, at an estimated height of between 300 and 500 meters. Already on January 26, after dinner, flashes of light were seen that were occurring frequently, and when sleeping, around 9 pm, a light was seen about half a meter above the floor of Issac’s house, the which performed small and rapid displacements in the vertical and horizontal directions, and fired light beams in the direction of the hammocks where the researchers slept. In the words of anthropologist Carolina Schneider Comandulli: “On the night of January 26, after dinner, when I was observing the terreiro, I visualized flashes of light that were occurring with a certain frequency. I went outside to check for lightning, but I didn’t see any. Still early, at 9 pm, we went to sleep in our hammocks. At one point, I woke up to a strong light. At this point, I spotted a point of light above Isaac’s stairs, floating about two feet above the floor. I tried to check if it was someone carrying a flashlight, which was not confirmed. The object flew and sometimes made small and rapid displacements of a few centimeters upwards or sideways. From this object of light, flashes of light were being fired, in the direction of the hammocks where we slept. I was a little paralyzed by the event, turned to my side and closed my eyes in an attempt to go back to sleep. Thus, I did not follow what happened to the object from this moment on. My impression was that the flashes were of photos that were being taken from the environment we were in.”.

FUNAI involvment

After receiving the letter requesting help from the indigenous leaders, FUNAI sent, on August 1, 2014, the letter 115/GAB/2014/CR to the then Secretary of Public Security of the State of Acre, Ildor Reni Graebner, in order to request support for an investigation to be initiated in the Kampa indigenous tribe of Rio Amônia. On the same day, the Federal Police instituted the police inquiry IPL nº 0184/2014-4 – DPF/CZS/AC, in order to carry out an investigation to determine whether crimes were being committed against the Indians and the indigenous culture.
On August 20, 2014, the FUNAI Regional Coordination in Juruá issued Technical Information 15/CRJ/FUNAI/2014, compiling information regarding the luminous objects being seen in the Apiwtxa village. The document reveals that the indigenous leader Benky Piyako was responsible for taking the letter of request for help to CR Juruá on July 31, 2014, and on that same day, the Indigenous Assessor of the Government of Acre, the Secretary of Justice of the The State of Acre, the Command of the 61st Infantry Battalion of the Brazilian Army (61 BIS) and the Superintendence of the Federal Police in Acre got in touch to learn more about what was going on, as Francisco Pi-yako, Benky’s brother and at the time Special Adviser to the Government, he had alerted several agencies about the problem his tribe was facing. According to FUNAI, only the Army was not interested in the case, with a lieutenant having declared by telephone: “the Command needs more information about what it could be, as the information that had arrived was that it was a conflict between tribes.” Unlike the Army, the Federal Police immediately got in touch to carry out an emergency mission in the region to investigate the facts, and for this, two federal agents were deployed to the village, without any joint planning being carried out with the Regional Coordination of FUNAI. The agents had no prior knowledge of the region and the local context, and their presence in the village lasted only two days, “without it being possible to see anything, just to find out some information.”.
Also within the scope of IT 15/CRJ/FUNAI/2014, FUNAI conducted two interviews at the headquarters of CR Ju-ruá: one with Isaac Piyako, and another with Agronomist Matheus, who provided services in the village through an association. Both reported the presence of unidentified flying objects since 2013 in the village, traveling from west to east, that is, coming from Peru, and sometimes taking the opposite route, usually between 6 pm and 10 pm. Neither of the two reported seeing the objects at close range, which emitted two lights, one white and one green, and flew at an altitude of about 200 meters. Matheus also reported that he managed to make a video recording of the object and that the images show an oscillating light, and that he saw a person shoot it in an attempt to knock it down, but without success. But it was Isaac Piyako who provided FUNAI with the most intriguing details. He reported that in early 2014 he saw a “ball of light that blinked down”, and later saw an object that “emitted white lights and was at the approximate height that a small plane flies”. Some of their relatives in the Piyako family, the only ones in the tribe to have close contacts, saw an object up close which would have an “H” shape and said they couldn’t see anyone inside these UFOs. He reported that he believed that the Indian who received a beam of light, as described in the letter of request for help, miscarried not because of the beam itself, but because of the fall she would have taken while running in panic. He also said that hunting and fishing activities in the village were affected, since at 6 pm, which is preferred for carrying out these tasks, the phenomenon was frequently seen. Another interesting fact is that Isaac reported that the object was not seen on nights with a full moon and that the Ashaninka of Peru link these phenomena to a supposed being called “By the Face”, who was responsible for the death of indigenous peoples, including their scalping and skinning. Finally, he hypothesized that the phenomenon could be related to organ trafficking and said that he believed that this could in fact cause death.
Trying to find an explanation for the case, FUNAI indigenist Jairo Lima, who signed the document, raised several hypotheses, such as drones, drug traffickers or even military aircraft, since there is a Peruvian Air Force base to the west of the tribe. He attested that the reports of Piyako family members in general are convergent, recalling that in 2011 such “fireballs” were seen in the municipality of Guajará, in the state of Amazonas, on the border with Acre, just 200 km away from the tribe. Finally, he concluded that there was a need to carry out an on-site mission to carry out more observations and collect new reports.

Investigations by the Federal Police and the Federal Public Ministry

A Federal Police inquiry was opened on August 1, 2014, motivated by the denunciation of indigenous leaders. It was filed by the Federal Public Ministry on August 15, 2015 due to the lack of elements indicating that any crime had been committed against the Indians, in addition to which, the MPF believed it necessary to assess the social and anthropological aspects that tribe before the events, something that escapes the criminal sphere and, therefore, is outside the competence of the PF. In addition, it is worth remembering that the federal agents who were at the site did not witness any of the phenomena reported by the Ashaninka, perhaps because of the short stay of only 2 days, that is, the lack of observation of UFOs by the agents, was another motivating factor for archiving.
The close contact of researcher Carolina Comandulli with the unidentified phenomenon in January 2015 was the great motivator for the opening of an investigation by the Federal Public Ministry. On February 2, 2015, the FUNAI coordination in Juruá sent the official letter 007/GAB/2015/CR to the then Public Prosecutor in the Municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul (PR-CZS/AC), Thiago Pinheiro Cor-rêa, placing the researcher’s testimony in copy and sending the suggestion that border surveillance and protection agencies should be called to carry out an investigation. On February 9, 2015, Thiago Corrêa, in possession of the official letter from FUNAI, issued an order containing the Notícia de Facto nº 1.10.001.000016/2015-03, which disclosed Carolina’s report, and asked for measures, such as sending copy of the Federal Police inquiry, as well as the dispatch of official letters to the Brazilian Air Force, 61st BIS of the Brazilian Army, IBAMA and ICMBio. The Air Force’s Fourth Integrated Air Defense and Air Traffic Center responded through the DTCEA-CZ, located in the city of Cruzeiro do Sul, which did not have records of flights in that region and which also did not know more information about the events. The Army, in turn, said it does not have any additional information about the phenomena and that the competence for airspace surveillance belongs to the Brazilian Air Force. IBAMA declared that it had no information, and finally, ICMBio said it had heard comments about the “fireballs”, but had no further information about the events.
On March 9, 2015, Notice of Fact No. 1.10.001.000016/2015-03 was converted into a Preparatory Procedure, that is, a signal that an investigation could be opened by the MPF in order to investigate the case in greater depth . In view of this scenario of lack of information provided by the various bodies consulted and still awaiting the submission of the IPL by the Federal Police, on March 30, 2015, the Public Ministry issued a new order related to the Preparatory Procedure, determining the performance of a expertise to be carried out in loco by the 6th Coordination and Review Chamber of the MPF (6th CCR), responsible for matters relating to indigenous populations and traditional communities. This expertise would have the objective of evaluating and providing subsidies to the prosecutors about the anthropological aspects involved in the events in the Apiwtxa Village, in order to exclude the possibility that the reported phenomena were linked to beliefs, rituals or consumption of hallucinogenic beverages. On June 8, 2015, the Public Prosecutor’s Office issued, through the Attorney of the Republic in the Municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul, a new order in the Preparatory Procedure in order to postpone its validity period by another 90 days, to that the anticipation of the completion of the anthropological survey by the 6th CCR could be negotiated, since the initial forecast was that this would only be possible as of August 2016 due to the lack of resources available for such.
On September 8, 2015, the Federal Prosecutor, Thiago Pinheiro Corrêa, determined the conversion of Preparatory Procedure No. 1.10.001.000016/2015-03 into a Civil Inquiry, highlighting the need for the anthropological survey to be carried out in 2015 to verify whether the anomalous events were related to the use of psychoactive or hallucinogenic substances, typical of indigenous customs, even though the MPF knew that researchers had been in the tribe and witnessed the same phenomena. The Attorney General’s Office then informed that it would only be possible to carry out the forensic activities still in 2015 if the demand was framed in urgent criteria such as risk of death or irreparable damage, and then the request to carry out the same was canceled due to lack of urgent justifications , even though they were dealing with a phenomenon that was still unexplained and, therefore, with unpredictable consequences.
On September 15, 2015, PR-CZS/AC issued an order in the Civil Inquiry notifying FUNAI so that andsta to inform within 15 days if there were records of new occurrences of the “fireballs” phenomena within the Apiwtxa Village. The Regional Coordinator of FUNAI in Ju-ruá/AC, Luiz Valdenir Silva de Souza, then informed that the last occurrence had been registered in July 2015 and sent the following request: “…We reinforce the recommendation that institutions for the protection of border may learn about this situation and take on this investigation, such as the Army and the Air Force, which have greater conditions, competences and logistics for it…”, since the Federal Police remained in place for a few days and after he left the phenomena continued to happen.
Finally, on November 25, 2015, PR-CZS/AC requested the archiving of the civil inquiry, given that “they did not find minimal evidence about the phenomenon investigated or steps capable of identifying it, even though, according to information from FUNAI, there were no new appearances of unidentified objects on the surface of the Apiwtxa Village”. The Deputy Attorney General and Coordinator of the 6th CCR, Deborah Duprat, accepted the filing request, which was confirmed in a collegiate decision on March 17, 2016.
Unfortunately, the lack of resources available by the State and the lack of interest on the part of the Army and the Air Force, at least officially in the matter, were the main reasons for the shelving of investigations by the Federal Police and the Federal Public Ministry. Had there been the necessary personnel and support, perhaps the federal agents would have stayed long enough to be able to observe the phenomena and then the case could have taken a different turn. In turn, the expertise of the Public Ministry, if it had been carried out, could have ruled out the hypothesis of delusions on the part of the Indians due to the consumption of hallucinogenic drinks such as ayahuasca, called kamarapi by the Ashaninka during their rituals, although this was not strictly necessary, given that researchers witnessed the same phenomena during visits to the tribe.

Repercussion in the media and the change in FUNAI’s posture

As soon as the case documents were released through the author’s YouTube channel, several newspapers and television stations in Acre and the northern region began to cover the subject, giving a lot of notoriety to phenomena hitherto unknown by the media, by the general public and by ufology itself. Headlines published that a possible genetic research could be being carried out by intelligences from outside the Earth and then approaches by journalists to indigenous leaders and FUNAI servants for them to grant interviews on the subject became frequent.
Considering that the first documents released by FUNAI through the Law on Access to Information were all sent to the author by e-mail, and he wanted to give them greater publicity, FUNAI was asked to make them available in the Archive National through a link that could be accessed by any citizen, a fact that was denied, given that FUNAI has its own documentary file. Therefore, if any citizen wants to receive these documents directly from the Foundation, then a request must be made directly to its documentation center. Today, these documents are available on the author’s Google Drive, whose access link is available in the description field of the videos shown on the subject in their channel. UFO also provided a link to access the documents in the news published about these cases on its official website.
In a new request for information sent to FUNAI to try to obtain new documents on the cases in Tribe Kampa do Amônia, the author received the following unexpected response in full: “Dear Sir, greeting you cordially, and in reply to upon request, the requesting unit informs you that it does not have files and/or reports from the Federal Police, nor information from IBAMA or the Army, as well as photographs or videos about the fact. They also emphasize that, simultaneously with the request for access to the documents, an article entitled “Investigator Presents Documents from FUNAI that reveals UFO attacks on Indigenous people in Acre” was aired in the news media. In this matter, there is talk of an alleged conspiracy of the bodies to cover up the case, as well as that the FUNAI documents that it has, prove the veracity of appearances and attacks by UFOs on the Ashaninka community. Such exposure, with the names of those involved as leaders, or even with the exposure of the names of those involved in the preparation of the reports, such as Technical Information 15/CRJ/FUNAI/2014, are being harassed by reporters and other curious people, causing embarrassment to them. In some cases, people seek information on how to get to the indigenous land, with the intention of ‘recording the phenomenon’. They point out that such apparitions in TI Kampa do Amônia ceased in 2015. In view of the foregoing, the unit manifests itself for not agreeing to provide documents, as they do not see how such information is of public interest and that the publication of the matter is causing embarrassment to indigenous peoples and the institution’s employees. The denial is in accordance with art. 6, III, of Law No. 12,527/2011. Art. 6 It is incumbent upon the bodies and entities of the public power, subject to the applicable rules and specific procedures, to ensure: III – protection of confidential information and personal information, observing its availability, authenticity, integrity and possible restriction of access. Without further ado, we are at your disposal for any clarifications. Sincerely, SIC/Couvid/Ouvi sic@funai.gov.br (61) 3247-6306”. The request was then closed as “Access denied for containing confidential information classified according to Law 12,527/2011”.
As explained, the position of FUNAI’s Ombudsman in this response was totally incompatible with the role of the public service, which is to provide the services required by society, which pays its taxes expecting in return a service with a high level of excellence. First, because there is no reason to hide the disclosure of the names of civil servants and indigenous leaders in declassified documents made public, simply under the pretext of preventing the “harassment of reporters and onlookers”. In addition, the classification of information without a legal justification under law 12,527/2011 would be part of what FUNAI called a “conspiracy to cover up the case. Finally, the refusal to provide additional documents because they are not of public interest is totally disconnected from reality and proof of this is that in art. 8, item VI of the Access to Information Law, there is a provision for the disclosure of information that answers society’s most frequent questions, and within this scope the subject of unidentified aerial phenomena, popularly called flying objects, is included. -res unidentified, UFOs or UFOs, so much so that the National Archive has on its website ua specific public collection on the subject.
FUNAI certainly does not have on its staff, specialists or researchers in unidentified aerial phenomena, and as it did not have sufficient support from other public bodies, so the only alternative chosen to deal with the matter was to classify all information and prevent the they reach the public, a certificate of incompetence to deal with the subject and a backward attitude, considering that the Brazilian Air Force itself has already made available a range of documents on the subject in the National Archives. An example of this lack of competence is the aforementioned occurrence in 2016 in the Kampa and Isolados do Envira tribe, when an Indian was hospitalized after shooting at an unidentified object, demonstrating that educational actions were not carried out with the leaders indigenous peoples of the region.
An alternative approach in this case would be for FUNAI to convene serious researchers, who are dedicated to the subject and know the various characteristics presented in related cases, and draw up an action plan based on instructing the indigenous people that these phenomena have been occurring for decades in the country and that there is, so far, no indication that these presences are hostile, and there is no reason for the indigenous people to shoot firearms in an attempt to drive away these UFOs, because on the contrary, this can generate an unpredictable reaction, causing unnecessary harm to people. Correctly addressing the issue requires a joint effort by specialists from different areas of civil society, the military, public bodies and congressmen, so that the issue is debated and the most appropriate actions taken.

Cases in the Peruvian Amazon and Similarities to Operation Saucer

On the Peruvian side, close to the border with Acre, about 200 km away from Tribe Kampa do Rio Amônia, several cases similar to those that occur in the Brazilian Asha-ninka tribe are also reported, with the appearance of luminous objects flying close by. of people, and emitting beams of light on them. Even reports of human abductions and mutilations are counted by the local population and investigated by the Peruvian Air Force (FAP), most notably at the time when Commander Julio Chamorro was still active, working in the Anomalous Aerial Phenomena Investigation Workshop ( OIFA), official body of the FAP for the investigation of UFO events. In 2008, Tere-sa Lucia Chamorro, daughter of Commander Chamorro, was studying Social Communications at the University of Lima, when, influenced by her father and due to the need to hand over a job to college, she decided to go to the city of Pucallpa, where strange happenings were being reported in the villages of San Juan and San Jose. Teralu, as she likes to be called, then traveled to Pucallpa with colleagues Mar-tha Wong and Luciana Masías, where she interviewed civilian witnesses from those villages, as well as military personnel, during a visit to the region’s Air Base. The testimonies give account of flights of multicolored luminous objects, with spherical or ellipsoid shape, often descending to the houses of the residents. Some fishermen report being chased by these lights, and others report the disappearance of people, as well as deaths with signs of mutilation, a fact that they usually attribute to an alleged being called “Pela Cara”, due to the fact that many victims are found. without the skin on the face. These events made the population terrified, locked in their homes at night, affecting the fishing activity and consequently their own livelihood. The objects started to be received by shots by the residents, which often seemed to make them be driven away. During their foray into the community, Teralu and her friends managed to record a video of one of these UFOs, which was static in the air and exhibited the same multicolored lights reported by the local population. A letter of request for help was also obtained from the Air Force, sent by the leadership of the village of San Jose, Guillermo Sanchez Pachecho, to the Commander of the 4th Region of the Peruvian Air Force, Gustavo Ríos del Águila, which said: “…I request support from specialized personnel, since the people of San Juan are totally terrified by the continuous appearance of luminous objects that surround the entire village, people who were alone fishing were taken in various opportunities…”. Commander Chamorro also gave interviews talking about these cases, saying that on some military occasions the FAP called him to inform him that they were witnessing the appearance of the objects. In addition, he reported having been informed by Colonel Gustavo Ríos del Águila about the case of a young man who was fishing in the water with his canoe, under the eyes of his little sister, and who had to throw himself into the water to escape a hot weather. beam of light fired by one of these approaching objects. His sister then asked for help from other residents who fired several shots at the object, which escaped from the site. The cases continued without a definitive explanation for the phenomena and the last public information about new cases in that region dates back to 2014, when a new wave of apparitions followed, in the same period as the Kampa do Rio Indigenous Tribe Ammonia was witnessing the cases already reported.
Both the cases on the Brazilian side and the cases on the Peruvian side, both occurring near the border of the state of Acre, have several similarities with the ufological phenomena observed during Operation Prato, carried out by the Air Force of Brazil at the end of the decade of 70, in the state of Pará.
Light objects of different shapes descending close to communities from 6 pm onwards, flashing beams of light at residents causing physiological effects on people, terrified local population, different families coming together in just one house to feel protected, firearms fired at objects in an attempt to scare them away and requests for help from the leaders of these communities to local authorities and the Armed Forces are some of the facts that make the cases very similar. The biggest difference is in the importance given by the military in each case. In Operation Prato and in the Pucallpa Case, the Air Force of each country dedicated itself to investigating and mobilizing military personnel to deal with the matter, so much so that the actions of Commanders Uyrangê Hollanda by the FAB and Julio Chamorro by the FAP gained great notoriety. In cases involving indigenous peoples in Acre, there is still no official evidence that the FAB has been involved and carried outo an operation in the region, even knowing that the objects constantly invade the country’s airspace, a fact that becomes even more delicate when it comes to a border region. In addition, there is currently no evidence of marks left on the skin of people who were hit by the light beams in Acre and Pucallpa, there is only evidence in the cases that occurred in Pará. However, it is necessary to emphasize that one or more Physiological effects such as feeling hot, numbness, nausea, headache, visual discomfort and eye irritation are some of the common symptoms reported in all these cases.
The great similarity in the way these objects work makes us wonder if they are not linked to the same phenomenon that monitors the entire northern region of Brazil, as well as part of the Peruvian territory, on an itinerant or even simultaneous basis. Former civil aviation aeronaut and important researcher of the cases that occurred in Pará, Vitorio Peret, reports that during the vigils he held with the military between 1979 and 1980, Commander Hollanda already signaled at that time that UFOs would be also present in Manaus and Peru, and adds: “If memory serves me right, they even knew the Peruvian region where UFOs threw beams of light and burned people.” Peret also highlights the similarity between the drawings of some objects made by the FAB military and drawings made by Peruvian witnesses showing a spherical or ellipsoid-shaped object containing “multicolored luminous tails” which was nicknamed by the military as a “stingray” due to “tail” of the object that resembled the tail of that fish. If in fact it is the same phenomenon as the facts point out, there seems to be a preference for isolated communities with low access to information, such as fishing villages in the cases of Pará and Pucallpa and the indigenous communities in Acre. Among the possible hypotheses for this type of preference, we can list: possibility of more discreet performance, lower risk of operation, greater passivity of people with attitudes based on fear due to less access to information, more preserved population genetics due to lower miscegenation and a more preserved environment.

Current status and future of research

Do the phenomena that occurred quite invasively in the Kampa tribe of Rio Amônia in 2014 and in the Kampa and Isolates tribe of Rio Envira in 2016 still occur today? This is one of the priority questions that the author tried to answer in every way. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the indigenous people are instructed not to leave their villages and tourist visits to these tribes are interrupted. In addition, the indigenous people only have access to the internet in the city of Marechal Thau-maturgo, located about 50 km away from the Apiwtxa village, which access is only made through the rivers in the region, and with the pandemic, the vast majority are not being able to go to the city. However, despite all the difficulties, some Indians were contacted by the author and today it is known that luminous objects are still seen today. The difference is that the “fireballs” have appeared in a more discreet way, that is, without approaching villages or shooting beams of light. It is also known that unidentified phenomena are observed in several other tribes in the region, such as the Kashinawá Ashaninka of the Breu River.
Among the next steps of the research, a visit to the site is planned to conduct interviews with indigenous people and researchers, as well as vigils, in order to verify the possibility of viewing or even recording in a photo or video of the flying objects. In view of the high costs involved in reaching the region through the complicated logistics Cruzeiro do Sul, Marshal Thaumaturgo, Aldeia Apiw-txa, the author started a campaign on the site supported to raise funds through donations, which can be accessed at https://apoia.se/ronyvernet. However, while the field research is not carried out, conversations were initiated to facilitate interviews by videoconference with researchers who followed the events in the tribes, so that they could provide details not found in official documents. Together with these researchers, the best strategy for approaching the indigenous people on the subject can be defined, in order to provide them with information about the UFO phenomenon that in the state of Pará and other parts of the country, so that they know a little. better the way these objects operate and become research partners, sending new information, whenever possible, about occurrences in the region. The increase in the level of information will also help the Indians to stop responding by firing firearms to the appearance of objects, an action that is dangerous for their own physical integrity, as seen in the case of 2016 in which an Indian was hospitalized.
New documents will appear. The Federal Public Ministry and the Federal Justice in the state of Acre have contributed information about the Federal Police inquiry, and very soon, this document will likely be released to the public. New requests for information will be made to the Government in order to confirm that there was in fact no role of the Armed Forces in these events, as well as more information on the 2016 case in Tribo Kampa and Isolados do Envira, as well as details of cases in other tribes and villages. As new information is revealed, it will be posted on the author’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ronyvernet. Obviously, the most important information will also be disclosed on UFO channels, such as the magazine and social networks.
Therefore, it can be said that research on UFO phenomena in Acre is just beginning. There is a great possibility that these occurrences are common in several other states of the Amazon and they are simply not made public or even not communicated to the authorities, especially in the case of isolated tribes. There is also a need to analyze these cases from an anthropological point of view, since different indigenous peoples will have different behaviors towards the phenomenon, taking into account different beliefs and cultural aspects. The most important thing is to emphasize that the events are real, they are probably the same type of phenomenon that started decades ago and that are observed to this day.
